If you want to help save the planet, and do your bit for the environment for future generations then perhaps you're already aware of what you need to do.
If you're not sure of what you can do, or what benefits you'll notice, then here's what you need to know.
1.
By recycling paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, aluminium and any other materials, you can hep top reduce number of trees that are cut down, and reduce the reliance on raw materials.
This will help to save natural resources, and will also help to save money.
In addition, you'll also notice that the vast amount of your household waste, such as packaging, can be recycled.
2.
If you use less electricity, then not only will you be saving money, you'll be helping to reduce the amount of electricity needed.
Do you turn your electrical items off when they're not in use, or do you leave them on standby? Are you phone or laptop chargers left plugged in when they are not in use? Do you have the TV on even if you're not watching it? What other ways can you thing of to use less electricity? 3.
Using less petrol will reduce the amount of CO2 produced.
Do you really need to take the car on all your journeys? Could you care share, or get a lift with colleagues? 4.
If you can't car share, then perhaps you could use public transport more.
Is there a bus you could catch to work? Is the station closer to work than you thought? 5.
Why not walk more? You'll use less fuel, and feel much better for it.
For journeys of less than a mile in congested cities, or at peak times, it's usually just as quick to walk as it is to drive.
Think of the health benefits too.
6.
If your journey is too far to walk, but you're determined to be green, why not cycle to work? With more and more people turning to pedal power, cycling is becoming more popular, and many commuters are now getting to work by bike instead of by bus or car.
Again, at peak times, cycling really can be quicker than driving.
7.
By flying less, you'll help to reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses produced.
Do you really need to travel for work, or could you use technology to hold your meeting? Why not see if you could holiday without going abroad this time? 8.
Instead of spending a fortune on clothes, DVDs, books and music, why not make the most of what you've got already? If you do decide to or reuse rather than buy new, why not have a clear out, and see if you can sell or donate what you don't need anymore.
Somebody might be really grateful for what you don't need.
Even large items that might be past their best could be useful for some people.
Why not advertise your old TV, computer or suite in the local paper, or online, and give it away? 9.
Why not see if you can save your money and the planet at the same time? By determining whether you do actually need to buy things will make you think, and you'll be surprised at the number of things you don't buy.
You'll reduce the need for packaging, delivery and raw materials, and will be doing your bit for the environment.
10.
Why not see if you can encourage others to do their bit for the planet too? If you can get the rest of your family involved, and perhaps your friends too, and they can do the same, it will begin to have a big effect.
It's important that you're not overbearing, and judgmental.
Not everyone wants to recycle, and some will prefer to drive rather than walk, but many others will soon see the benefits.
Now you know what you can do, isn't it time that you thought more about the environment, and see how you can do your bit?
