The Continental Care Center at Seymour and its Rehabilitation Program for Seniors

Rehabilitation is a key factor to improving quality of life for seniors and is proving to be a vital component of senior health and longevity. The need for rehabilitation services can come in a split second. Falls, accidents, strokes, illness or any number of events can suddenly stimulate the need for rehabilitation. Decades ago, a trip to a skilled nursing community conjured up negative emotions. In today's world, skilled nursing communities are playing an ever increasing role in rehabilitation. Today skilled rehab care greatly enhances a person's ability to get back home.

The Continental Care Center at Seymour puts emphasis on developing short-term rehabilitation programs combined with therapy services that are offered 6 days a week. No longer does a trip to a nursing community mean you won't be going home. The fact is that rehabilitation is often required to get people home and rehabilitation often significantly improves the health and well-being of the individual.

The Continental Care Center at Seymour Rehabilitation program consists of six (6) trained, experienced therapist and assistants dedicated to improving the lives of residents. The Center employs a Rehabilitation Nurse to oversee the program and two (2) Rehabilitation Aides to coordinate and implement the following Rehabilitation activities:

» group rehab sessions,

» one-on-one rehab sessions,

» passive range of motion sessions,

» active range of motion sessions, and

» a multitude of other rehabilitation activities

Each resident has a Restorative Plan of Care that is reviewed weekly for modifications. Elanna Fultz (Director of Nursing) the driving force behind the rehabilitation initiative, states, "The opportunities for our residents in our Rehabilitation program are endless. We like to have fun and involve all staff and residents in their journey to improving their quality of life." Elizabeth Owens (Administrator) added saying, "A good well rounded rehabilitation program composed of qualified staff dedicated to consistent progress can achieve remarkable results. We are committed to our rehabilitation program and returning our residents back to their homes as soon as practical.

The dedication to rehabilitation by the Management team is evidenced by these testimonials from past residents:

"We can never thank each one of you enough for your care and friendliness during Richard's stay at The Continental Care Center at Seymour. We were treated just like family. Because of your exemplary rehabilitation program and kind care Richard was able to return home." - Love, Richard and Dickie Bartlett

The Continental Care Center at Seymour requires teamwork and personal involvement in the care of a resident which creates a noticeable supportive, trusting, compassionate, and caring environment.

Bill Burch, Owner of The Continental Care Center at Seymour, shared, "The most positive things at the Center have to do with our staff. They are the most caring and motivated staff in the region. Without question, Elizabeth Owens, Elanna Fultz, and Company has developed a leading edge care concept regarding rehabilitation and senior care."
