- 1). Lay out the basic design. Set the three 53-inch poles parallel, each 32 inches apart on center. Lay the other poles on the base formed by these poles, running parallel to each other, side by side and perpendicular to the base poles.
- 2). Drill a hole completely through the midline of each of the 75-inch poles, positioned at 6 inches, 38 inches and 70 inches from one end. Drill first with the 1/8-inch diameter bit, then widen with the 1/4-inch bit. This will help avoid splitting.
- 3). Lay the far right-hand pole in position on the support poles. Slide the nail through each hole to mark its position in the support pole.
- 4). Drill a hole one inch deep in the support pole at each point you've marked, first using a 1/8-inch bit then widening with a 1/4-inch bit.
- 5). Cut the wooden dowel to a length equal to the diameter of the first long pole, plus one inch.
- 6). Mount the pole in position by sliding cut lengths of dowel through the long pole and into the support pole. Drive it in until the tip is flush with the surface of the long pole. Use the hammer if necessary. Coating the outside of the dowel with soap will make help it slide more easily.
- 7). Repeat steps three through six with the other poles, until the entire surface of the platform is covered.
