Snoring - Some Causes You Never Knew About!

Snoring is a harsh and loud breathing sound when one is asleep.
Snoring generally happens in adults and it may be due to physical or other discomforts.
At least 45% of normal adults snore occasionally and 25% do it habitually.
And snoring gets advanced with age.
Snoring can be due to a deviated septum, nasal polyps, enlarged adenoids, obesity, sleep apnea and/or sinusitis.
Snoring is a major health hazard that can also result in insomnia.
There are various medical, herbal and natural ways to stop snoring.
These can be administered or used depending upon the patient and the condition of snoring.
The easiest way to reduce snoring is to change one's sleep position.
When someone is lying on his/her back, the tongue falls back and increases airway resistance.
So, an immediate remedy is to lie on one's sides.
Raising the bed by 4 inches will also help.
However, if snoring still persists, then it's time to change one's lifestyle.
Overweight people tend to snore more.
Hence, it is suggested that a person lose at least 10% of his/her body weight to reduce snoring.
Avoiding alcohol and other sedatives also reduces snoring.
Anything that is a sedative or an alcohol tends to suppress the breathing drive.
Snoring is often caused by nasal congestion.
So, before going to sleep, if someone manages to throw a towel over his/her and breathe steam through a steam vaporizer, it helps clear the congestion.
Nasal strips are one of the most popular anti-snoring devices.
They help keep the nostrils wide open, thereby helping easy flow of air.
This also manages to stop breathing through the mouth and hence, reduces and/or stops snoring.
Of course, there are prescription drugs that can take care of this problem that most of us face today.
Drugs like Snorelief and Snore MD are rather popular in the USA and Canada respectively.
The sales figures of these drugs points towards the fact that snoring is a problem indeed and most people are trying to take it seriously.
Snoring is not only a serious health hazard, but also a social hazard.
A change in lifestyle, instilling discipline into oneself and medication can take care of this hazard.
