- 1). Lay the sheet metal of your choice out on a flat, clean surface so it forms a diamond shape. One of the metal corners should point toward you.
- 2). Remove the pencil or chalk from the mathematical compass and slip a china marker into its place.
- 3). Adjust the mathematical compass to the desired size. For instance, if you want a cone 6 inches long, adjust the compass to 6 inches.
- 4). Place the point of the compass against the corner of sheet metal closest to you. Draw an arc across the metal with the china marker.
- 5). Cut along the china marker line with metal snips, wearing heavy leather gloves. You should be able to cut the metal as you would paper; just use a little more muscle. The result should be a metal triangle with a curved base.
- 6). Bend the left and right edges of the triangle into a U-shape slowly, then into a circle. Overlap the edges and staple them together with an industrial stapler.
