I have been thinking of something I do not know if anyone else has thought of lately.
Let us think about what has put us on an extended "spiritual coffee break" and what we can do about it.
This is serious! Let us get ourselves back to the work.
To start our discussion, here are some myths we need to quit repeating.
Myth 1: America is not a Christian nation.
Sad to say, I have been guilty of repeating this one until God gave me a "wake-up call.
" If this myth were based on reality, whole segments of our nation would be in constant peril for their lives.
There would be no freedom of religion.
The Christian faith is one of few that is not violent toward people of other faiths.
It is like the atheist I heard about who was talking to a cannibal who became a Christian as he was reading the Bible.
The atheist said, "We do not believe in that book.
" The cannibal who became a Christian said, "You better be thankful I do.
If I did not believe in this Bible, I would be having you for lunch!" Myth 2: Diversity means one religion is no better than any other one.
No one really believes this myth.
If this were the truth, why would we have so many religious groups who are claiming their answer to life is the ultimate solution to all the world's problems? The proof is not in the proclamation.
The proof is in the outcome.
A careful examination of the fruit will show Christianity elevates societies far above the others.
No other religion even comes close.
Myth 3: Making the Christian religion exclusive belittles people.
This is the old song of those who tell us, "Why are you trying to convert other religions to yours? They have their own religion.
Leave them alone.
" In the first place, they do not have their own religion.
They have a religion they inherited from their ancestors.
They were born into it.
Their society pressed them into it.
Christianity is different.
Our God does not have any grandchildren.
He has only first generation children.
The only way you can be a Christian is to personally choose to do so.
Then, the Christian faith delivers people from many downgrading practices of other religions.
If you do not believe this, check out the record.
Myth 4: The Christian religion is a religion of hate.
This is so far from the truth it is laughable.
All Christianity is about is self-sacrificing, self-giving love.
John 3:16 says, "God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting Life.
" Christians are told by Jesus, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind...
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
" ( Matthew 22:36-40) Christians are told by Jesus to, "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you.
" (Matthew 6:43-48) Furthermore, God's love is shed abroad in our hearts by His Holy Spirit.
The gospel of God through the Lord Jesus Christ is calling upon all peoples to develop a loving, caring, sharing relationship with their God and their fellow human beings.
I do not know of any other religion that does this.
What the world needs today is real love from the Lover of their whole being.
Myth 5: Christians should keep their religion to themselves.
When you have the world's greatest news, this is impossible.
Believe me! What real born-again, Spirit-filled Christians have received from their loving Heavenly Father is too good to selfishly deny the same privilege to others and would be unthinkable.
Christians, we are to "obey God, rather than men.
" It is time for us to get to work for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
We have been "drinking spiritual coffee" long enough.
It has dulled our spiritual senses.
We are in a daze.
Let's hold our heads under the "water of life" until we wake up to the needs of those around us.
What the world needs now is love, God's sweet love.
