- 1). Turn the key fob for your 2002 Toyota vehicle over so that you can examine its back. Purchase the type of replacement battery that is indicated on the back of the key fob.
- 2). Remove the physical key from your fob by pressing the lever on the side of the fob. Pull the physical key free and set it aside.
- 3). Insert the tip of the physical key into the narrow slot at the bottom of the fob. Pry open the key fob by gently wiggling the physical key back and forth.
- 4). Use the tip of your physical key to pry up the small circuit board in your key fob to reveal the battery.
- 5). Free the dead battery from the battery compartment by pushing aside the three clips that hold it in place. Remove the dead battery and discard it.
- 6). Insert the replacement battery into the battery compartment in your fob. Replace the three clips to hold the new battery in place.
- 7). Replace the small circuit board in the fob. Apply gentle pressure to the corners of the circuit board with the tips of your fingers to re-adhere the double-sided tape that holds the circuit board securely in the key fob.
- 8). Reassemble your key fob to complete your battery replacement project. Align the two halves of your key fob and squeeze until you hear the pieces snap together.
