The Basics of Photography Exposure

Photography has evolved and revolutionized over the years. Pinhole camera was the first object to introduce the concept of camera. With the advent of industrialization and globalization, the concept of photography was further modified. The digital photography was evolved and introduced to bring changes in the quality of the pictures and videos. This form of picture-making has improved and enhanced the visual quality of a picture.

While using a digital camera, you may have to control the amount of light entering the camera to photograph a subject. If you know how to control the amount of light entering, you can create attractive pictures.

Exposure refers to the amount of light collected by the sensor in the camera while photographing a subject. If you expose the shot for a longer duration the subject receives a glare on the face or clothes. On exposing the shot for a shorter duration the subject appears too dark. There are two ways in which you can control the amount of light. These two ways are shutter speed and aperture. The shutter speed refers to amount of light to which the sensor is exposed. The aperture refers to the size of lens opening that allows the light enter the camera. The shutter speed can be used basically to capture the moving subject and aperture is used to focus an object and make it turn brighter. The aperture is measured in f/stops and the shutter speed is measured in seconds. Many cameras have light meters which automatically adjust the amount of light entering the camera while photographing the subject. However, you can shoot the subject by controlling the light by yourself. This enables you to exercise the creativity and imagination. You can play with the amount of light for creating visual effects in a photograph. A person can also create effects while using green screen photography. In this type of picture-making, you place a subject in front of a green screen background and then digitally replace the background by any other image. A person can control the amount of light entering the camera sensors in this kind of photography to give great visual and realistic effects.
