How to Tell What Kind of Motherboard a Computer Has

    • 1). Click on the "Start" button to get to the Windows start menu.

    • 2). Click on "Run" in Windows XP; skip this step if you run Windows Vista or 7 on your computer.

    • 3). Type "msinfo32" into the text box on the bottom of the Start menu and press "Enter" on the keyboard. It opens a window called "System Information."

    • 4). Find the motherboard manufacturer and the model given in the column "Value" under "System Manufacturer" and "System Model" in the System Information window. For example, you may read the manufacturer as "ASUSTeK Computer" and the motherboard model as "Rampage Formula."
