How IFTTT Recipes Expand Evernote for Students and Teachers

IFTTT stands for 'If This Then That'. This service lets students and instructors command various apps and services to work together.

The potential for combining apps you already use is broad, but could include making Evernote journal entries based on your calendar, syncing Evernote to OneNote, or one of my favorite, Combining All Highlights in an Instapaper Article in an Evernote Note.

Basically, a service like IFTTT could change your academic world!

More IFTTT Terminology

This service calls its combinations between apps or services 'recipes'.

You can search for channels, which are collections of possible recipes for a given app. In fact, there are more than 170 web programs or apps you can mix and match via the IFTTT community.

The Evernote Channel for IFTTT suggests recipes between tasks in web programs or apps and tasks in Evernote. For example, you can connect Evernote with Gmail, Foursquare, Dropbox, Twitter, Todoist, and many other popular apps.

You will even find recipes for actions in Evernote alone.

Is IFTTT Right for You?

This is not the only app of its kind, though it does have its own distinct flavor and community. For that reason, you should check out competitors to make sure you find one with the right bank of connections for you.

You should also check out Zapier with its emphasis on business or organizational apps, as well as EasilyDo, a task management app. Both of these options also integrate with Evernote.
