- 1). Insert a different CD. The problem may lie with a particular CD that is defective. Also, make sure the volume is turned up. If you have just taken your Ford for repairs, the mechanics may have turned off your radio or lowered the volume.
- 2). Look at the nonlabel side of the CDs you have been trying to play. If you notice any scratches or dirt, clean them with a soft, lint-free cloth to buff out the smudges. If the dirt won't come off, put some rubbing alcohol on the cloth and wipe the CD. Insert one of the clean CDs in the CD player to see whether it was just a dirty disc causing the problem.
- 3). Put a CD lens cleaner disc into the CD player to clean it. Listen to the disc's audio instructions to guide you through the cleaning processes. This special CD, which can be found at electronics stores, has a small brush that removes dirt and dust from the CD player's laser lens. If your car's player has a message that reads something similar to "Disc Error" or if your CD is skipping, the lens may be dirty.
