How to Measure a Sliding Window for Replacement

    • 1). Open the screen and the sliding window. This allows you to take accurate measurements.

    • 2). Pull the measuring tape across the width of the center of the sliding glass window. The measurements must be taken the inner side of the frame to the opposite inner side. Measure the width again at the lower and top portions of the window frame. Record your measurements.

    • 3). Repeat the measuring to determine the height of the sliding replacement window. Do this on the right side, left and the center of the window between the frame tracks. Write down your measurements.

    • 4). Measure the depth of the window between the inside and outside blind stops. A depth of 3 1/4 inches is necessary for many standard window replacements, as stated by Home Construction and Improvement.
